Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0012hrs LATE SPOT MACV Duc Pho vicinity BS917222, elements involved with US MAT-1-61, RF 417, RF 1-103, PRU, PSDF out of Pho Thach. While going into PZ ran into element of 403rd and local guerillas, were engaged by approximately 1 squad of VC with a sniper and small arms fire, broke contact at 1330hrs. Contact started on 181320hrs lasted 10 minutes. Results were 1 RF KIA, 1 RF WIA, Enemy losses were none, confirmed by US, engaged area with Artillery 105, Gun ship was requested and expended, also had Vietnamese Air Force strike at grid BS917222. At 0201hrs Bravo Company Bunkers 1, 2, 3 and 4 were inspected by LT Studdard, with all satisfactory. At 0323hrs MACV Duc Pho, informed us that PF 181 and PF 129 are moving by foot to grid BS774382, and BS779380. We cannot engage any targets below the 40 east-west grid to 37 east-west grid line and anything east of the 76 north-south grid line. At 0605hrs PF 181 vicinity BS774382 at 0545hrs an unknown enemy unit VC threw grenade into the element while on a raid, Results 2 PF WIA, negative enemy casualties, with negative US confirmed. At 0740hrs LATE SPOT MACV Duc Pho 0300 to 0400hrs Quang Ngai came under 122 Rocket Attack, received 3 to 4 rounds near the Air Strip in training area, negative knowledge of damage or casualties. At 0745hrs MACV Mo Duc PF 141 vicinity BS700555 requested Urgent Dust Off for 2 PF wounded from a mine multiple frag wounds to face, head and body. Vietnamese Air Force refusal at 0745hrs Dust Off 88 completed at 0810hrs Dust Off received fire 600 meters southeast of OP wink with negative hits, final results was 1 PF KIA and 2 PF WIA. At 0810hrs LZ Liz Access Road is open at this time. At 0830hrs Primo 6 is on station at this time. At 0930hrs MACV Ba To vicinity BS275433 requests Urgent Dust Off for 4 ARVN, 2 KIA and 2 WIA contact with enemy with small arms fire and B 40 from 100 to 200 meters from northeast. Dust Off with jungle perpetrator and guns requested. Vietnamese Air Force refused (QUINH) Bird # 88 completed at 1025hrs. At 1415hrs PF 168 with H Troop 1-1 Calvary, vicinity BS784513 requested Routine Dust Off for 1 PF with shrapnel wounds from an ambush sprung. VC threw hand frag grenades at PF picked up by resupply bird, Dolphin 19 completed at 1435hrs. At 1515hrs Division Commander arrived at LZ Liz and left LZ Liz at 1540hrs. At 1535hrs Division Commander visits at LZ Liz subjects discussed: 1. General situation. 2. Lack of enemy activity, 3. Asked what districts think enemy threat is? Advised DSA Mo Duc was worried about today and tomorrow Vietnamese Armed Forces Day. 4. Discussed lack of US Artillery support for LZ Liz, Division Commander seemed concerned, departed at 1535hrs. At 1620hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 2 is on station at this time. At 1706hrs LZ Liz Access Road security bought 3 M-79 HE rounds and 2 81mm Illumination rounds duds from 4 Vietnamese males ages 7 to 9, paid 2 meals C Rations. At 1815rhs MACV MO Duc vicinity 784513, H Troop with PF 168 while on operations found a tunnel with 2 VC/VCI, 1 was VC sub hamlet chief; other was hamlet level farmers association member. Also nearby found Chi Com grenade Booby trap, also dud 105 and 155 rounds all three Blown in place, the VC/VCI evac to MO Duc. At 1814hrs MACV MO Duc vicinity 734616, at 1445hrs Dolphin 21 while flying PSYOPS Mission took AK fire, sustained 1 hit but had negative damage. At 1815hrs Nui Vong, have 2 reporters from Division Southern Cross to do story on tanks at Nui Vong. At 1828hrs H Troop and PF 168 at 1330hrs vicinity BS784512 while on operation received 1 M-79 canister round resulting in 1 PF WIA. Also at same location found a booby trap, bunker with M-79 canister rounds inside also 1 AK47 magazine, 6 M-46 rounds and 1 hack saw and 2 some grenades. At 2043hrs Warlord Black is on station for Nighthawk Box 60, broke station at 2115hrs with negative findings. At 2207hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Charlie 4 and Recon 1 for a total of 5. Legend: 1st Platoon 17, 2nd Platoon 44, 3rd Platoon 56, 4th Platoon 23 and CO-64. At 0930hrs 11 Brigade reports Convoy with 40 vehicles departed LZ Bronco with Military Police escort and 20 Pax arrived Chu Lai at 1210hrs.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company has a Security Mission for LZ Bronco and 11 Brigade as the Brigade is leaving LZ Bronco for LZ Dottie and Rear Elements to Chu Lai.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and Access Road Security. At 0410hrs LT Studdard inspected bunker line all satisfactory. At 2001hrs LT Suddard inspected bunker line all satisfactory.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0706hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is moving into their Patrol Base at BS708437. At 0740hrs Charlie Company Command Post and 3rd Platoon in their Patrol base vicinity BS726409. At 1118hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon Patrol closed vicinity BS726406. At 1458hrs Recon going on Charlie Company 2nd Platoon Patrol and at 1510hrs Charlie 2nd Platoon patrol and Recon is at checkpoint 1 at BS710442. At 1617hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon and Recon is at checkpoint 2 at BS713442. At 2150hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon on move to Night Defense Position at BS722460 and 3rd Platoon and Command Post at BS728407 with 4 Mechanical Ambush out.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco and 11 Brigade as they are turning over LZ Bronco to the ARVN and moving their TOC to LZ Dottie and Rear Areas to Chu Lai.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0617hrs Recon is moving to LZ Liz at this time. At 0645hrs Recon has closed on LZ Liz at this time. At 1458hrs Recon going on Charlie Company 2nd Platoon Patrol and at 1510hrs Charlie 2nd Platoon patrol and Recon is at checkpoint 1 at BS710442. At 1617hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon and Recon is at checkpoint 2 at BS713442. At 1950hrs Recon is on move to their Night Defense Position at BS725452 and closed on their location at 2027hrs.
