Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at Nghia Hanh (BS616638) for OPERATION NORFOLK VICTORY. Headquarters section has squad checking perimeter 3 WHA none serious found a ammo can when checking it out, booby trap with hand grenade 2 men from Company B 6th Support and 1 was from Charlie Company 26th Engineer 1 of men.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0100hrs Base Defense reports at 2235hrs Sector L reports observing 5 individuals 150 meters in front of bunker #51 took under fire with searchlight support with unknown results. At 2250hrs reports receiving automatic weapons fire into bunkers 55 and 56 sector E reports receiving small arms fire into bunker 53.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company found a base camp at coordinates BS585592 with hot food and fresh camouflage and continued to conduct a detail search of the area. At 1324hrs Alpha Company found 1 bicycle with out wheels by steam poncho mat on ground. At 1350hrs Alpha Company vicinity BS585592 found company size VC Base Camp. Report had foxholes 3-4 feet deep and 2-3 feet wide and 10’ long. Foxhole has overhead-interlaced camouflage and found food appear to be 1 day old, M-14 rounds and fresh cut fruit, calling in artillery to try to cut off retreat route of VC. At 1452hrs Alpha Company found 11 foxholes 3-5 men can use each one. Also found 5 hootches with 4,000 pounds of rice, destroyed. At 1803hrs Alpha Company at BS585597, 1 US WIA frag wounds, requested Dust Off. At 2000hrs Alpha Company reports ambushes at BS586397, BS587595 and BS587592. At 2235hrs Alpha Company at BS535635 observed 2 suspected VC outside their position took under fire with small arms and M-79 fire with unknown results.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued Search and Destroy operations in the Valley Area. At 0857hrs Bravo Company at BS563637 found 2 anti-aircraft position s each 6’ in diameter with pedestal in center. Also found several fox holes in area destroyed. At 1307hrs Bravo Company at BS525660 had 4 hand grenades thrown at them but did not explode checked area with negative results. At 2000hrs Bravo Company Command Post is at BS583641 with ambushes at BS565875 and BS591642.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Black. At 1250hrs Charlie Company at BS595608 detained 8 VCS trying to evade, 5 males and 3 females. At 2000hrs Charlie Company is located at BS549625 with ambushes at BS549641 and BS549645.
Delta Company
April 12, 1968
At 0935hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon has squad ambushed with 3 WHA at BS524668 and they where extracted, the Aerial Scouts Platoon was place in a blocking position at BS525664 and extracted at 1600hrs. Delta Company 3rd Platoon replaced Aerial Scouts and continued to push up the southern ridge to seal off the area to the south. Delta Company 2nd Platoon returned to Delta Company control and was moving to seal off the north ridge and top of 922. The Command Post and the Engineers where trying to seal off the north ridge. The 1st Platoon continued to move up the hill pushing the NVA/VC up the hill with both ridges, the 3rd Platoon and 2 Platoon where working was easy to defense very real problem trying to take. At 0913hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon at BS525672 found several books, medical supplies, 4 packs, 5 Chi Com grenades, destroy books and Hand grenades. At 0935hrs Delta Company at BS524668 3rd Platoon elements ambushed, are returning fire. At 0935hrs 1st Platoon engaged with fairly large elements in Cave and Gun Ships on station and Dust Off completed at 1125hrs. At 1046hrs Delta Company at BS525672 engaged 1 VC results 1 VC KIA. At 1142hrs Delta Company at BS525672 reports found VC Base Camp, medical books dated 1959, two packs penicillin, sick call roster and are receiving 30 caliber or larger machine gun and other crew served weapons along with 12 grenades checking area at this time. At 1215hrs Delta Company reports location at BS523673. At 1505hrs Delta Company at BS522662 found 1 sub machine gun SN 648845. At 1508hrs Delta Company at BS523663 found 1 RPG round, 4 57RR rounds, 3 82mm mortar rounds, 2 60mm mortar rounds and 1 Machine gun tri pod. Also 1 sniper scope, large amount of loose AK47 and link ammo, 3 M-1 rifles, 1 57 recoilless rife also 1 60mm mortar and 1 tri pod for A/A weapons and lots of ammo. At 1715hrs Delta Company at BS525666 received sniper and automatic weapons fire with negative casualties are checking it out. At 2000hrs Delta Company reports Delta Company (-) is at BS522668 with ambush at BS515883.
Echo Company
April 12, 1968
Echo Company is located at Nghia Hanh where Battalion Forward is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear and S-4 section established the Rear Forward location. The 4.2 Mortar Platoon is moved to LZ Black at BS568806 where the continued their direction fire support for Battalion Operations. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
