Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0928hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC request 2 scout dogs and handlers to work with Bravo Company ASAP Command and Control Helicopter will pick them up. At 0950hrs Delta Company engineer at BS920207 received 5-10 rounds sniper fire with negative casualties, called in artillery and 81mm mortars, E troop returned fire with 50 caliber approximately 1 hour later 4 Vietnamese civilians were found to be wounded all were Dust Off. At 1440hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC E Troop at BS917250 while traveling south on highway 1 received 10-15 rounds of automatic weapons fire from the high ground, negative casualties, continued to move south.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0020hrs Bronco Base Defense HHC sector F a friendly mortar rounds 81mm impacted approximately 75 meters front of Bunker 54 results 1 US wounded minor PFC Stinchcomb, James W. HHC 11th Brigade with slight frag wounds in upper left arm and shoulder. CPT Heyman suspended the use of Ammo Lot 7N-2-29.
Alpha Company
August 29, 1968
At 1010hrs Alpha Company center of mass is BS786379 as they conduct their saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. Alpha Company at BS787377 found a tunnel with entrance covered with dirt. Tunnel went in 30’ turned left 40’ then right for 40’ found inside tunnel four 1 ½ pound blocks of C-4. At 1907hrs Alpha Company at BS783378 found some documents in a hooch under the floor and will evac to LZ Thunder tomorrow morning.
Bravo Company

At 0845hrs Bravo Company at BS827274 engaged 4 VC in black PJ results 1 VC KIA are pursuing the other 3, one believed to have a weapon. The KIA 30, dressed in black PJ, had 1 NVA canteen, 1 US canteen, 1 hammock, small bag of rice and 1 can of soybean oil. At the time Bravo Company engaged and killed VC, Col. Quinn received a minor frag wounds in the cheek, not serious not evac. At 1010hrs Bravo 10 is located at BS803298. At 1840hrs Bravo Company at BS811296 observed 2 VC on trail called Artillery results at 1910hrs at BS807302 found 2 VC KIA with 4 baskets of tobacco leaves, 1 pair of Ho Chi Minh sandals, and a booby trap grenade which was blown in place. They were approximately 20-30, in black PJ. At 1810hrs Bravo Company invisible is at BS805303, Spy at BS823269 LRRP are in place, 30 Command Post in their Night Defense Position at BS820288 with 10 BS801299, 20 BS834264 and 21 at BS838269.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 1850hrs Charlie Company 31 is at BS880228, with Bonnie at BS761354 and Clyde at BS880228. PFC Chalon L.Tuggle was evac to 2nd Surgical Hospital.
Delta Company
August 29, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 0715hrs Delta Company 35 ambushes at BS932253 had engaged 1 female VC dressed in black, results 1 VC KIA. At 0835hrs Delta Company at BS917208 reports that Bridge 94 is receiving small arms fire, will call in 81mm fire as of now negative casualties. At 1010hrs Delta Company 20 at BS825266, 21 OP BS924263, 30 Command Post at BS929253. At 1035hrs Delta Company at BS928251 found a tunnel 3’ wide 3’ deep and 8’ long and found inside 1 4.2 Mortar round, 200 foot of WD-1 wire and 1 in trench tool. At 1315hrs Delta Company at BS917207 observed 4 VC with weapons, called in 81mm and artillery with negative casualties at this time. At 1400hrs Delta Company reports their Command Post at BS931248. At 1850hrs Delta Company positions LP BS935221, and by 2030hrs Command Post Night Defense Position at BS931256, and 23 roving patrol with 5 check points BS934253, BS822254, BS920262, and BS914258.
Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 1010hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS772321. At 1126hrs Recon Platoon at BS757317 engaged 2 VC evading with results 1 VC WIA, CIA wearing black PJ, on right chest had 3 silver stars, 1 NVA pistol belt, 1 US bayonet, 1 US helmet liner and 2 M-26 grenades CIA, will question VC on ground ASAP. At 1400hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS758318.
