Headquarters and Headquarter Company
February 2, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0830hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC S-3 reports the 1st and 2nd Platoon of Delta Company will remain in blocking position at Sa Huynh until further notice. At 1126hrs Mo Duc Advisor, have contact with 100+ VC at 5978; ground contact request Sharks if available. At 1120hrs E troop 1st Calvary at BS844364 a 2.5 ton truck hit a mine, results 1 KIA and 2 WIA with 3 Vietnamese killed. At 1402hrs Helix 32 at 831426 received sniper fire from bunker. Helix will call the sharks and if they have nothing hot, will come check. Helix requests to blast bunkers with Napalm and rockets, blasted bunker along with 2 fighters. At 1455hrs E Troop reports at BS832366, 5-7 people were observed carrying something toward road when element approached they ran to the wood line and fired on US Troops, no casualties Sharks called. At 1500hrs 6 Support is removing the 2.5 ton truck that had hit mine en route to LZ Carentan this morning. At 1610hrs LZ Carentan many Vietnamese wee sighted in and around LZ Carentan. At 1615hrs 6th Support at BS842367 observed small arms fire south of dump. At 1730hrs Delta Company 19 Engineers at BS886298 a vehicle received automatic fire while moving south down Highway 1, one round hit the vehicle, estimated 3 VC in ambush, E troop moved in to check out area, flushed 3 VC with negative contact. At 2105hrs 1-20 Infantry PF unit reported receiving small arms fire from vicinity BS830337.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 2025hrs Base Defense Bunkers 48 and 50 reported incoming mortar rounds at approximate BS820380. At 2030hrs Company C 26 Engineers approximately 14 rounds of undetermined caliber mortar landed to the south and along beach road from Carentan to Bronco, Mortars believed fired from LZ Carentan. Artillery fired at area, mortars stopped firing. At 2100hrs Base Defense Bunkers 15-19 BS811394 to BS910390 received small arms fire, negative casualties. At 2120hrs Base Defense approximately 5 rounds of mortar fire landed to the left rear of bunkers 62 & 36 between their position and artillery hill at BS815388. At 2125hrs Base Defense 4 rounds of 60mm mortar fire landed to the front of bunkers 39, 40 and 41 at BS816376. At 2130hrs Troop E reported automatic weapon fire from BS827365.

 

Alpha Company
February 2, 1968

At 0750hrs the OP from Alpha Company has been extracted from BS850390. At 1112hrs Alpha Company at BS896296 received burst of automatic weapon fire checking area out. At 1225hrs Alpha Company reports 2nd Platoon at BS855380 and 3rd Platoon is located at BS872350. Alpha Company locations at 1405hrs, is 1st Platoon on bridges 106 to 108 with 2nd Platoon at BS885304 and the 3rd Platoon at BS887293.

 

Bravo Company
February 2, 1968

At 1405hrs Bravo Company reports their locations 1st Platoon Bravo Company at Bridges 104-105, 2nd Platoon Bravo is en route to BS778407 and 3rd Platoon is at BS778407. At 1910hrs Bravo Company ambush site BS763401 and BS786393.

 

Charlie Company
February 2, 1968

Charlie Company (Task Force Barker 198 Light Infantry Brigade) continued their Security Mission for LZ Dottie. Charlie Company at 1330hrs Charlie Company detained 1 man of military age, will not answer questions will evac for further questioning.

 

Delta Company
February 2, 1968

At 0830hrs Delta Company 1st and 2nd Platoon will remain in their blocking position vicinity until further notice of SA HUYNH and Delta Company 3rd Platoon remain on Bridges 99-100.

 

Echo Company
February 2, 1968

Echo Company and 4.2 platoon and radar platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. At 1405hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS807292 as they continued to work east on their LRRP work.
