Headquarters and Headquarter Company
December 6, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Cork and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations in OPERATION VERNON LAKE II. At 1812hrs 11 Brigade TOC on LZ Cork receiving incoming Mortar rounds so far they have received 20 82mm Mortar rounds and at 1840hrs firing stopped results unknown at this time. At 1900hrs received 30 rounds 82mm Mortar rounds with negative casualties or Damage. Return Fire with 50 Caliber Machinegun with gun and flare ships on call but weather very bad.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0745hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS727598 received 15 rounds of small arms fire with negative casualties, return fire and continue Mine Sweep. At 1000hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS675681 found 105mm round, blew in place, blast uncovered 7 105mm rounds and 2 rifle grenades, all were destroyed but not on the highway.

 

Alpha Company
December 6, 1968

Alpha Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Cork. Bravo Company
December 6, 1968

Between 0045hrs and 0100hrs Bravo and Charlie Companies received 8 rounds each of RPG and 82mm mortar fire at their Night Defense Position locations resulting in 1 US WHA return fire with Artillery with unknown assessment. During the day, Bravo Company continuing their search and clear mission found two rice caches, which they destroyed and also found some documents. At 1140hrs Bravo Company found an ammo cache at BS334525 found 9 rounds of 75mm Recoilless Rifle and 8 empty canisters, 1 ton of rice, documents and equipment found in 4 huts. All was destroyed in place except the document which will be evac to LZ Bronco. At 1550hrs Bravo Company at BS334525 detained 5 VC hiding in hut and evac to LZ Volunteer.

 

Charlie Company
December 6, 1968

At Between 0045hrs and 0100hrs Bravo and Charlie Companies received 8 rounds each of RPG and 82mm Mortar fire at the Night Defense Position resulting in 1 US WHA Charlie Company will evac in morning. During the day At 1125 Charlie Company at BS 330527found 1 MAT 49 Sub Machine gun #SP19955, 100 pounds of rice and 100jpounds of green materials. At 1140hrs Charlie Company activities consisted of flushing 2 VC out of a hut complex a BS329535, the VC evaded leaving their weapons behind 2 SKS CIA Serial # HA4916 and BN8340 and in the afternoon they found an NVA version of a PX with misc. supplies and equipment, which they destroyed.

 

Delta Company
December 6, 1968

Delta Company will continue Search and Clear Operations in their Area of Operations. At 1230hrs Delta Company at BS330528 found 300 pounds of block material, 13 bundles of towels, 10 (new) cooking pots, 1,000 pounds of salt and 4 shovels. All equipment was destroyed. Also found some documents which we will evac to LZ Bronco.

 

Echo Company
December 6, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Cork where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Cork. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Cork where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). The Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the (1-20 Infantry TOC).
