Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Ross for Operation WHEELER-WALLOWA and are OPCON to the 198th Light Infantry Brigade. At 1141hrs Bravo Company 26 Engineer dump truck hit mine at 05358 with 1 US WHA.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Ross. Captain William J. Adams assumed command of Alpha Company.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued to use their Search and Clear operations in their Area of Operations. At 1141hrs reports Dump truck hit mine at BT059358 with 1 US WIA.
Charlie Company
May 6, 1968
Charlie Company continued to use their Search and Clear operations in their Area of Operations. At 1320hrs Charlie Company saw a man at BT006382 and detained him. At 1616hrs Charlie Company located 3 VC with weapons and engaged with results, 2 VC KIA age 23-30 with no ID. At 1910hrs Charlie Company at AT995365 reports mortar rounds with negative casualties. Charlie Company reports 1 WHA (M) mortars have stopped. At 1730hrs Charlie Company at AT999374 engaged 3 VC results 2 VC KIA, 40-45 years, no ID with 1 with a lighter with 403rd on it. At 2005hrs Charlie Company at AT995365 received 6 rounds of Mortar Fire in Night Defense Position with results 9 WIA (M). At 2015hrs received 8 60mm mortar and small arms fire and engaged with their Mortars. SP4 Mark S. Pate, PFC Rickey G Meria, PFC Daniel Simone, and PFC Robert W. T’souvas awarded Purple Hearts.
Delta Company

Delta Company conducts a Recon in Force to the east and southern Valley sniper fire all day moving to the base of Hill 352, which was the top of NUI HOAC RIDGE in the area of BS068238. Suspected Delta Company may have some problems when we was watching the air strike on the ridge line and Hill 352 at 1140hrs and the smoke started coming out of the aircraft. LZ Center (1-6th Infantry Call Sign Kansas) continued to be under attack again today. Set up Night Defense Position our Night Defense Position at BT074242. The Buff the Magic Dragon gun ship moved to provide suppressive fire to Delta Company and LZ Center that night but started to receive so much 51 cal Machine Gun in return fire was forced to break contact.
Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Ross where Battalion Forward, is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and the Base Defense on LZ Ross. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Ross where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0030hrs Recon Platoon reports they received 1 hand grenade with negative results, 1-20 Infantry Recon Platoon manned OP Tiger, Cobra and Dragon. At 1618hrs Recon Platoon at BT003378 LZ Dragon reports 1 US WHA (E) tripped Hand grenade booby trap with result I US WIA (E). 2LT EDWARD W. COLLINS III WAS LISTED AS KIA.
